A Stunning Outdoor Wedding at Saltmarshe Hall

We can’t wait to share Kathryn and Richard’s special day with you, a stunning outdoor wedding at Saltmarshe Hall. It was captured by the talented M&G Photographic who were pleased to give us their view of the day..

“We first met Kathryn and Richard at their pre-wedding shoot in early 2018, on a very cold day. They brought their border collie, Salty, along to meet both of us and he joined in with some photos. From that moment we couldn’t wait for the big day at Saltmarshe Hall to arrive. It is without doubt one of our favourite local venues. We can shoot there a hundred times and each time the photos will look so different, as there are so many different locations within the grounds that are perfect for photography.

In the morning of the wedding, Hollie photographed the bridal party getting ready at Saltmarshe Hall whilst Patrick was with Richard and the groomsmen at their home. Kathryn and Richard had an outside ceremony – it was a very bright day and the outdoor ceremony was perfect. The light was great for photography. As well as photographing it, we also filmed the wedding. After an emotional ceremony, Salty the dog made an appearance for a few photos. He was quite the guest of honour and we got some lovely natural photos of him with Kathryn and Richard.

The rest of the day raced by as all weddings do, with speeches filled with such emotion being a particular highlight. They were a joy to photograph and the wedding overall was so wonderful to be a tiny part of. Kathryn and Richard loved their photos and films – they are such a lovely couple and we loved getting to know them and are still in touch now.”

Q: Tell us briefly how you both met as a couple..

A: “We met working on private super yachts, became good friends and then got together once we had both moved back to dry land.

Q: Tell us a little bit about the proposal…

A: We were on Safari in South Africa. After a long and wet safari jeep drive Richard took me back to our honeymoon suite where he had organised a private dinner, roses and champagne. He lit the open fire and candles and went down on one knee. We got together 7th Jan 2017, engaged November 2017 and married May 2018.

Q: Tell us a little bit about your wedding dress and its details…

A: An A line, sweetheart and strapless dress by Caroline Castigliano from the Bridal Collection in Harogate. It was made with silk Georgette fabric and was a classic strapless cut with a flowing silk skirt in ivory.

Q: Could you give us a little detail about any of your accessories?

A: I wore a silk belt and long sleeve silk overlay in the day. In the evening I took off the overlay and added a diamante belt. I wore some beautiful pearl and diamond earrings and a pair of lace, block heels.

Q: What did Richard wear?

A: Richard wore a three piece suit from T.M. Lewin accompanied by a pair of Barker cherry brown shoes.

Q: Could you describe your ceremony and details?

A: Our guests sat under the trees creating a beautiful aisle for us whilst an acoustic guitar played. My mum walked me down the aisle to “Something” by The Beatles. Our registrar conducted a simple ceremony for us and whilst we went inside to do the formal signing with our two witnesses, Richards parents and my brother the guests were entertained by Sam Downing on his guitar.

We had two readings.. If you can always be (Larry S Chenges) and Love’s Testing (Anon).

After the ceremony we had confetti, champagne and cocktails within the 17 acres of stunning gardens.

Q: What did you do for food?

A: The venue provided our day time food. We chose to start with a runny scotch egg, rocket parmesan salad, crisp pancetta and balsamic dressing followed by a main of Featherstone’s Fillet steak, chunky hand cut chips, vine tomatoes, peppercorn sauce. We finished with the Saltmarshe Trio of desserts (Raspberry creme brule, Rich chocolate brownie, limoncello macerated strawberry pavlova and Vanilla mascarpone.

Our evening food was Pizza from chef at Pizza Oven.

Q: Where did you save money and how did you splurge?

We allowed a large proportion of the budget towards good food, nice wine, Nyetimber sparkling wine and an open bar. It was also important to us that we had an experienced photographer and videographer (who were fantastic). We saved money on stationery and not having an overload of flowers. We did not have wedding cars or wedding favours.

Q: What are your top tips for other couples getting married outdoors?

A: We were lucky with the weather but we had tried to tell ourselves not to be disappointed if it was not possible on the day. Be sure to get your hair pinned well! Mine stayed in perfectly and it was quite windy. And advise guests to bring a jacket!
