Bargoed Natural Burials is an independent natural burial ground situated in North West Carmarthenshire.
We are dedicated to providing natural and sustainable burials for the local community that provide less of an impact on the environment than more traditional interments. We are a member of the Association of Natural Burial Grounds.
The site is situated at Allt-y-Garreg woodland and is part of the family farm – some 180 acres of land which has been managed mainly for wildlife for nearly 30 years. The creation of a natural burial site was considered to be an appropriate way of helping to safeguard the land for wildlife, and is in keeping with the family ethos of helping to protect the environment. The natural burial site is spread across two of four fields that were planted with over 18,000 indigenous trees in 2012. The trees surround circular wildflower meadows.
We do not accept bodies that have been embalmed prior to burial in order to prevent the leaching of formaldehyde into the ground and local water table. All caskets and burial urns are required to be biodegradable and contain no plastic or metal parts.
We welcome visitors and there are grass footpaths that are kept cut and clear, but please note that as this is a nature reserve the ground can be uneven in places so wheelchair access is very limited. The site itself has car parking for a maximum of 20 cars.
Please do get in touch if you would like to know more and we will gladly answer any questions you may have.
